WATER TREATMENT PLANT

Geyser Water Treatment specialises in the design and build of sustainable water and waste treatment plant.

Wastewater treatment is a process used to remove contaminants from wastewater or sewage and convert it into an effluent that can be returned to the water-cycle with acceptable impact on the environment, or reused for various purposes (called water reclamation). Pollutants in wastewater are removed, converted or broken down during the treatment process.

Wastewater treatment plants may be distinguished by the type of wastewater to be treated, i.e. whether it is sewage, industrial wastewater or agricultural wastewater.

Overview

If your house or business is not connected to the mains sewer, your sewage can be dealt with in one of the following ways:

  • septic tank - an underground tank where the solids sink to the bottom and the liquid flows out and soaks through the ground (effectively it separates the effluent). These tanks operate without a power supply;

  • sewage treatment plant - a part-mechanical system that treats the liquid so it’s clean enough to go into a river or stream. These systems need a permanent electrical supply to operate;

  • cesspool (also called a cesspit) - a sealed tank that collects the sewage; or

  • a non-standard system, such as a reed bed or trench arch system.

There are a number of binding rules and regulations to be followed when discharging domestic and industrial waste to the ground or water, we can help you to understand what these rules mean for you and what needs to be done to ensure you are following them.

When installing a new system, it is important to note that you will need building regulations approval and in some cases, planning permission (check with your local council).

Everything we do is driven by poo!

Not every effluent system requires the same treatment process - in light of this we design and build economically sound specialist waste treatment plants to meet our client's needs on a project by project basis.

We work with the client to save them money wherever possible. This may involve:

  • Building specialist equipment including Dissolved Air Flotation systems (DAFs) and rotary screens to remove particulates which we then put into aerobic digesters.

  • Supplying test units where we dose proprietary bacteria to break down effluent so it will meet discharge consents.

An example of a waste treatment plant installation:

Where a DAF is used, we utilise an ARINnox system and/ or a biological flocculant where applicable. The main benefits of using this type of system are:

  • Substantially reduced chemical usage, providing savings of up to 80%;

  • Improved top float solids concentration of at least 100%;

  • Reusable sludge for animal feed, fuel or fertiliser - a saleable commodity is made available.
